Ofsted & School Performance

Ofsted

Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. Ofsted regulate and inspect schools and colleges to seek improvement in the service. They carry out large number of inspections and regulatory visits in England and publish their finding on their website.

We were last inspected in March 2013, when our school was rated as a ‘Good’ school.  Inspectors found that children make ‘good and sometimes outstanding progress to reach well above average standards’, ensuring that ‘by the time they leave the school, they are confident, articulate young people, well prepared for the next stage in their education’. The inspectors were impressed by the children’s ‘exemplary’ behaviour, as well as their pride in their school. Inspectors found ‘Pupils are caring, exceptionally courteous and treat others, whether friends or adults, as they themselves would wish to be treated. Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the quality of care their children receive so that they are happy, safe and free from bullying. This allows pupils to focus fully on their learning, make at least good progress and develop exemplary attitudes to all that they experience at school.’

Attainment

Once again, our SATs achievement was very good, due to the hard work and endeavour of both staff and children. We do set challenging targets for the school, and through closely monitoring individual progress, we encourage all our children to do their best and work to achieve their own personal targets. This attention and commitment to continuing improvement has proved very worthwhile, with results reflecting the hard work within school to ensure all our children achieve their potential.

Department of Education Performance Tables

Many Parents are keen to see how we are performing in relation to other schools.

The Department of Education (DfE) Performance Tables provide a reliable and accessible source of comparative information on pupil attainment and progress, absence, workforce and finance. The Performance Tables include percentages of achievement at national expectations or higher in reading, writing and maths and the percentage of expected progress in each subject. You can find the School Performance Tables from the DfE by clicking the link below:

Sedgefield Primary Performance Tables

It is possible to select schools and compare the results directly, look at the performance of other Durham schools, or similar schools to ours nationally.

We are delighted that the attainment of our Year 6 pupils in 2016 puts us in the top 10 of Durham schools and in the top 10 of schools in our performance group nationally (*based on schools with similar results at KS1).  The Performance Tables for 2017 will be published in December.
