Rocks & Fossils Workshop
We had a fantastic visit in Year 3 from Naomi and Harry from the North Pennines National Landscape and Geopark Team.
The children enjoyed an exciting, hands-on rocks and fossils workshop where they became real geologists for the morning. They compared different types of rocks, explored how sedimentary rocks form using sand and water, and even took part in a fun rock-based game. One of the highlights was making our very own ‘fossils’ – a brilliant way to understand how fossils are created over time.
It was a fun-filled, engaging morning and the children learned so many new facts about rocks, fossils and how our landscape has been shaped. A huge thank you to Naomi and Harry for inspiring our young scientists!
Church Visit
Year 3 visited St Edmund’s Church and Sedgefield Methodist Church as part of their RE topic. We were investigators, learning about Christian worship and beliefs. We explored how church buildings, objects and actions are used to express beliefs and feelings. Thank you so much to both churches for their warm welcome.
Year 3 Class Assembly
Year 3 performed their class assembly to a large audience of parents, grandparents and carers. It was inspired by the book 'My Strong Mind' and our Family Group assemblies. In it, we looked at the importance of mental strength, confidence and resilience through a play, poem, famous quotes and a song. Well done Year 3! You were brilliant!
Hindu Shrines
We have started our unit on Hinduism and found out about Hindu home shrines. The children thought about what is special to them and what they would include in their own home shrine.

Internet Safety Day
Year 3 have really enjoyed taking part in the BBC Internet Safety Day online lesson all about Smart tech, safe choices.
We explored how technology and AI can help us learn and have fun, and we talked about how to use it safely and responsibly. The children shared great ideas, asked thoughtful questions, and showed a super understanding of how to stay safe online.
Skeletons in Science
In our Science lessons, we have enjoyed finding out about the different types of skeletons. We examined endoskeletons, exoskeletons and hydrostatic skeletons and sorted animals according to their skeleton type.
Below you will find a document detailing the Maths Knowledge in Year 3.
Below you will find a document displaying the different representations used in Maths in Year 3.
The sheet below gives suggestions on how you can support your child by asking questions about their reading. It aligns with the VIPERS that we use in class. We hope you find it useful.
